Epson make their money from ink, so they put a chip on the ink cartridge that decides when you have run out of ink, whether you have actually run out or not. I usually plug in a continuous ink supply system once the originals run out, but that it messy and the jets then tend to clog if not used regularly. The one I got is a bit temperamental, but the quality is very good. The colors are accurate, images crisp and clear, and if kept out of daylight, will last for many years in an album. By the w ay, the Epson R280 is an excellent product. Very unhappy with Epson and will probably purchase Cannon printers for my PVC printing needs. ![]() And to top it off, the ink that came with the printer had leaked making the ink useless. ![]() So now I’ve spent $300.00 for a printer I didn’t need. It did the same exact thing my old R280 did. Finally purchased a new R280 and guess what. I tried everything, reinstalled software, replaced ink, new PVC tray but nothing. The only reason I purchased a new R280 is because I downloaded R280 install software and my old printer flashed all three lights and would not print on the PVC tray. Fortunately I had an old computer with software I had installed for my old R280 which allowed me to print using PVC tray. Recent software updates have made it useless for printing PVC media.
