Back when the last crash happened we were building 90,000 houses a year. ‘We just need more supply, we need to create and we need to be building. Dermot Bannon called for more supply of houses in Ireland. They like that level of security, “okay, this is mine and this is what I’m paying for the rest of my life”, there’s a certain security in that. ‘Irish people like to own their own home if they can. Sadly Dermot can’t see a ‘simple solution’, saying: ‘I could turn around and say “do you see what they’re doing in Vienna with social housing”, but that’s a whole generation shifting and getting everyone to change their mindset.
